The day the internet nearly broke

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Okay, most of the time I write for and about Integricity’s Interactive business, but today I read an article on Wired magazine that appealed to my roots as a geek for Integricity Technology.
For the benefit of those who’ve not been with us since the “early days”, we started in 2000 primarily as a company providing [...]

Lively meets its end

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

A few months ago, I blogged about a new project called Google Lively (http://blog.integricity.com/2008/07/23/lively-addition-to-the-google-universe/)
Just yesterday, Google made an official announcement that it was pulling the plug on the 4-and-a-half-month young project, a brainchild of Niniane Wang (she’s quite a looker, btw).
In hindsight, Google Lively was born at a time when virtual worlds were quickly growing [...]

Did Social Media Decide U.S. Presidential Election?

Monday, November 10th, 2008

A good (and short!) read.
Right from the primaries, the Obama campaign showed how powerful harnessing the Internet and mobile devices could be. Supporters were encouraged to set up their own blogs, download chat and social network avatars, site widgets, and wallpapers, phone bank for the campaign from the privacy of their own homes, and, of [...]

Microsoft finally admits Vista was a mistake, kinda.

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Hence the introduction of Windows 7 which is purported to fix Vista’s mistakes that made a supporter like me shy away. Recently M$ demoed their inaccurately christened Windows 7 (Google it for the argument that it is NOT 7) and vowed to right the wrongs Vista was panned for. Learning from the apparent mistakes, it [...]

Google’s Story Tellers

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

In conjunction with Google’s 10th birthday, this video idea was conceived and then shot. What an amazing way to commemorate its birthday.
Some interesting bits that I liked from this video:
1. Dora Hsu talks about the good ol’ days when developers pasted 40,000 lines of code all over her office because of a bet made the [...]

Google Chrome

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

It has been dubbed the first true Web 2.0 browser for its simplicity, speed and functionality. Very few bells & whistles come with it. So it can be a good & bad thing as well.
For those who prefer a no-frills experience of the web it is just the thing for you. However if you are [...]

Lively addition to the Google universe

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Earlier this month Google announced the launch of Lively, a 3D virtual world inhabited by avatars - online alter egos that at times bear very little resemblance to their creators (Hey, if I had the power to virtually reconstruct my face, dress up my ‘av in some blinged out gear, I wouldn’t mind getting a [...]

Google’s got 200,000 servers

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

You think you’ve got hardware issues?
Check out this article on Google’s data center operations.
“it’s typical that 1,000 individual machine failures will occur; thousands of hard drive failures will occur; one power distribution unit will fail, bringing down 500 to 1,000 machines for about 6 hours; 20 racks will fail, each time causing 40 to 80 [...]

Viral Video Battle… Mac vs Lenovo

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

A while ago, I wrote about the launch of the Macbook Air… They had a really swell viral video to wow their loyal fans. Watch it here BEFORE watching a video that a competitor has put up to rival it.

And now… here’s the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 that sports an “everything-is-built-in” concept. Undoubtedly it’s not as [...]
